“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death” James 1:13-15 NKJV.
Often, we find ourselves in a place where we are faced with temptation and we are quick to say, claim or assume that it is God testing us. Like Adam and Eve, we are quick to point the finger elsewhere because there is no way it can be our fault, after all, God made us like this, right? Wrong. It is impractical and illogical to even begin to think that God will tempt us with what will lead us to an inevitable death. He brought and continues to bring life and when death entered, a plan was already set into motion to bring us back to His life. Yet, our stubbornness and pride leads us to believe that it is not our fault when in actual fact it is. Satan tried to tempt Jesus but He did not shift away from the Father’s presence and so He was able to overcome all the fleshly desires. Us on the other hand, allow ourselves to be drawn away from God as our innermost desires, those which are hidden even from our own conscience mind, are enticed. It is the oldest trick in the book just packaged differently and we keep falling victim to it time after time. Unless we are true not only to ourselves, but to God about the problems we have, we will never overcome them no matter what we do. That which is hidden in the dark will continue to cause trouble in secret, bring all things into His light so we may never be drawn away from Him by our desires.
Father, search my heart, open up my eyes and bring all things that are not of You to the surface that I may leave them before Your throne of grace where You have blessed me with the freedom of worshipping You daily. Amen
