“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love” 1 Corinthians 13:13 NKJV.
The word abide is defined as “acting in accordance with; to continue without fading or being lost; to live or dwell.” From this definition, we can see that we need to live in a manner that reflects our faith, hope and love, we need to keep pressing, free from doubt or confusion in faith, hope and love. We need to make these three things our dwelling place. What we need to take note of is the emphasis on love. Without love it is impossible to have faith or hope because faith and hope come about as a result of the cross. If we are not made perfect in and through His love, we are filled with fear, fear of punishment which is contradictory to the fruits of faith and hope. If we fail in getting love right, we will always find ourselves lacking in faith and hope, always having doubt and feeling hopeless. Though we fall short daily, His word explicitly says that we love because He loved us first which tells us that the only way to get love right, is to keep going back to Him at all times. It is only Him who makes it possible, no one else. He is love.
Father, thank You for Your love constant and unfailing love, that saved me and gave me faith and hope. As I look to the year ahead, may I always remember that it is in Your love that all things find life and I give You praise for this life of faith and hope. Amen
