Day 58: Defined By Love

“”A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another”” John 13:34-35 NKJV.

The one thing that differentiates the church, the body of Christ from the rest of the world is the mere fact that within the church there is unconditional love. This love that I speak of is Christ. Yet daily we finding ourselves missing the mark all because of structures and standards set by man. Among our different denominations, we fail to work and assist each other because we want our churches in the spot light. Jesus, the reason why we have the church in the first place is made into the secondary objective and not the primary because our pride has blinded us to believe that it is all about us, not Christ. When the people of the world see us as Christians squabbling and fighting among ourselves, instead of loving each other as Christ loved us, we appear to be just like the rest of the world. That alone can keep people away as it becomes a thing of hypocrisy within the church as we preach one thing yet we live in a manner that is the complete opposite. Christ uses the word “love” four times in this scripture, three of those instance, He says that we must “love one another.” That alone should show us the importance of us loving one another. Without that love, people will never see or experience the true goodness of Christ.

Prayer:

Father, help us as apart from You we fall short daily. Missing the mark, we cry out to You that You may reveal, convict and show us the way of Your love that through it, people may know that truly we are Your disciples. Amen
