“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” Colossians 3:12-17 NKJV.
We are in an environment that breeds a mindset of tolerance, where we do things for a specific purpose, like to maintain peace, but not out of the genuineness of our hearts. We pretend to humble ourselves before the Lord for other people, yet deep down in our hearts pride stands taller than mount Everest. We pretend to be kind to others, to be patient with them, yet inside we have no love for them. If we cannot love others and if we cannot love others, we definitely cannot love God whoever says otherwise is a liar. If we are truly God’s elect, holy and beloved, claiming to have put on all these things spoken of in this scripture, yet we lack love, it amounts to nothing. Already our works are like filthy rags without Him and they will continue being filthy rags if we do not bind it all together with love. God is the true essence of love, who makes all things possible, who brings all things together so you can trust that apart from Him, the patience, the kindness, the humility, the forgiveness and all other characteristics we are to put on will eventually fall off as the true nature of our intentions gets exposed.
Father, You are love and it is You alone who can teach me and enable me to love in the manner You require. Make me perfect in Your love so that in may be reflected in my actions and words all the days of my life. Amen
