“And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing” 1 Corinthians 13:2 NKJV.
Plenty times we may find ourselves bragging about all the awesome things we can do, not taking into consideration the source or root of our capabilities. If we place all our efforts, or focus all our energy and time on doing things, disregarding the source, then we are putting ourselves in tough situations. Without God, without love, all that we do is meaningless because we have no worth or substance. We are merely tools or vessels driven by our own selfish needs and desires, where we are quick to exploit and use others. Love is emphasised because, inasmuch as we can do all these things, which seem like they are from God, if there is no trace of love in us, we need to question the type of spirit that is at play here. Scripture does state that those who are not of love, are not of God, because it is love that differentiates which kingdom you serve. Light or dark. 1 Corinthians 13 clearly gives us the characteristics of love. It is also tells us what is not love. Only when we are made complete in love, can we be counted as something, where then our deeds will mean something, leading people down the right path. Let love lead you, let it fill you and let it consume you, there’s truly nothing greater than it.
Father, it is only Your love that enables and gives me all that I need. Help me to make my dwelling in it and to labour with Your love alone because there is nothing that brings me greater substance like Your love. Amen
