Day 44: Patient Obedience

Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. So Saul said, “Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.” And he offered the burnt offering. Now it happened, as soon as he had finished presenting the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him. And Samuel said, “What have you done?” Saul said, “When I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered together at Michmash, then I said, ‘The Philistines will now come down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the Lord.’ Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering.” And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you”” 1 Samuel 13:8-14 NKJV.

The trouble we so often find ourselves in more often than not is as a result of our lack of patience in being obedient to what the Lord has stated. We are so quick to allow our circumstances to dictate our faith to the point where we find ourselves being disobedient to God. Christ did not say that the mountain will move our faith, instead He said that our faith, even as small as a mustard seed is enough to move any mountain. So instead of looking at the mountain and trying to do things to get around it, trust in what Christ told you to do and watch Him establish and shine His glory in your life. Even when Christ promises you that He will lead you to your spouse, even if it takes much longer than you anticipated, it is important to remember that His time is beyond ours. Just because it does not happen today, it does not mean that it will never happen. Just because other things are happening around you, it does not mean that God is not faithful and you should resort to other avenues. Let your patience being obedient to His word, because there is nothing more fulfilling than serving Him.

Father, teach me to be patient, to always wait on You and to trust in Your works. You are faithful to the end and I will be forever grateful for that. Amen
