““But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise” Luke 6:27-31 NKJV.
The hardest thing for any man to do is to return love for evil and this is because the world gives us the mentality of “an eye for an eye.” The world encourages us to treat others how they treat us which ultimately means that your reactions and response to certain circumstances and dictated by another individual. Instead of having the internal (what is inside you) influencing the external (the world), it has become the other way round. We are quick to forget the scripture that says “greater is He that is in you that he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). This plainly means that what is within you, He who defines and gives you purpose, is far greater than those of the world. Now if we go and let a loveless world influence our spiritual life, how then can we expect to wholeheartedly live the love that God has bestowed upon us? To pray for those who do not love you is one hard task, yet Christ pleaded with the Father for our forgives as He hung on the cross. If people spitefully use you, do it with joy in your heart because the spite is not the burden you carry and in fact it should be more of a reason to pray for those who do that because they are suffering as well. The act of love is enough to change and transform the world. Christ proved it on the cross, its up to us now to live out that same love no matter how difficult it is.
Father, it is not easy for me to love unconditionally because I am weak, but I know that it is in You alone that I find strength so it is in You that I will continue to look to and depend upon to show me the way. Help me to live this love that You give me daily. Amen
