“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” 1 John 4:7-8 NKJV.
This scripture brings to question the fact that if you do not know God, do you really know the true meaning of love? God and love are the same thing, meaning that one cannot exist without the other, implying that even though someone may claim the banner of Christ, if they do not love unconditionally, they do not really know God. Fear of being hurt cannot be used as an excuse because neither of the two can be in the same place. We break God’s heart daily when we are disobedient to Him but like we saw in Romans 5:8, He still loved us while we were enemies of Him. We need to understand that our ability to love unconditionally does not come out of ourselves but it is through Christ that it is possible. Do not fool yourself into believing that loving only the lovable is enough to count yourself as one born of God. You were once unlovable yet God showed you unconditional love, why then should we count ourselves better by not doing the same?
Father, thank You for Your love that has changed and transformed me. Let Your love continually grow in me that, like You, I may love those who wish me wickedness. Amen
