“And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered and said to them, “Children, how hard it is for the those who trust in their riches to enter the Kingdom of God!”” Mark 10:24 NKJV.
There is a misconception that being rich is sin or it is a bad thing, but generally there is nothing wrong with money. Same applies to almost everything in this world. The problem is us as humans. As a result of the current state of the world, we do need money to be able to buy things to get through the day. That alone should be evidence that there is nothing wrong with money. Mark 10:24 comes just after Christ speaks to the rich young ruler. By constantly making things all about how much money we can make for ourselves, holding on to the thought that by having a lot of money, one has some form of security, we quickly find ourselves in this predicament. Where we are now meant to give away the money to the less fortunate, we find ourselves refusing to do so as the money has become our identity. What we have our trust in, builds and shapes our identity. Christ says those who trust in their riches shall not enter the kingdom of God not to condemn them, but because their choice has already condemned them. Practice wisdom and make the right choices today.
Father, help me to not put my trust in the wrong things but to always trust in You and Your mercy and grace. You are the only way to the Father and it is in You that I find life. Thank you for carrying me through January. Amen
