Day 28: A Cursed Trust

“Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes the flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited” Jeremiah 17:5-6 NKJV.

There can be no good that is associated with placing your trust in man of flesh. the flesh is weak but the spirit, which is God, has more than enough strength to sustain you beyond what you thought impossible. When Christ says to Peter, in Matthew 26:41, “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak,” He was stating the fact that we have a choice before us, to trust in the spirit or to trust in the flesh. The one choice is obviously easier than the other. Same is applicable today when we are faced with temptations. It is all dependent on where you have placed your trust. Paul makes mention of this again in 2 Corinthians 12, by saying “when I am weak (the flesh), then I am strong (the spirit)”. Another word that can be used for cursed is doomed. The minute you trust in man and make flesh your strength, you begin a chain of events that lead to inevitable doom. Those places where there is no life but only suffering. Not seeing good can mean two different things. On the one hand, it could allude to the fact of being completely consumed in your afflictions that even when God extends goodness to you, you cannot acknowledge. Alternatively it could imply that your heart has strayed so far away from God that truly no good can find you unless you take the first step of repentance in reconnecting with God again. Do not let your trust be your curse, the choice is yours.

Prayer:

Father, it is in You alone that I desire to place my trust and let no pride fool me into believing that I am strong. I ask that You continuously humble me when needed, disciplining me to live according to Your ways. My life belongs in Your hands alone. Amen
