“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” Romans 5:3-5 NKJV.
It is a strange concept to rejoice when you are faced with tough situations, especially for those without a living hope. It makes no earthly sense to be happy to face tribulations because according to the world, there is no other life than the life of the living dead.what is of the spirit does not exist to them because they are spiritually dead.
This joy we experience is not from ourselves but from the spirit that God has poured out onto us. This is a joy based on hope. A hope of knowing that despite things looking absolutely impossible, we will come out on top, victorious and stronger than ever. Without tribulations, we have no need to persevere, without perseverance, our characters cannot grow which forms the basis of our hope. Character is defined as the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual; the strength and originality in a persons nature. Both these definitions allude to some form of distinct difference from others and strength of the mind. This is what this hope we have in God alone does to us. It separates us from the rest of the world and gives us strength and peace that is unimaginable to the rest of the world because we know that no matter the circumstances or the outcome, we cannot be disappointed because God is at the forefront of it all.
Father, thank you for allowing me the strength to face tribulations. Thank you for finding me worthy to grow in You, my Rock and Salvation. Thank you for giving me this living and confident hope that I have in You. Amen
