“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” Romans 15:13 NKJV.
The definition of hope can be simply summarised as a feeling of expectation or trust that something will happen. Our capabilities to believe, to love, to hope, to have peace, do not come from ourselves but it all comes from God. They do not come from ourselves. Without God, the things we hope for or rather our hope is a diminishing one. It’s diminishing because all possible things we can hope for, even our lives are finite. They all come to an end at some point. This means that our joy and peace are temporary. But with God all things become eternal.
When God fills you, through the power of the Holy Spirit, everything that is of Him abounds to the point of overflow because in all reality He is too much for us. With an abounding hope, even in the face of despair, even in the face of persecution, we continually have peace and joy, not of our own but through God. This, however, depends on who or what we choose to fill us. It depends on who we trust in. Ourselves or God, the choice is in your hands.
Father, thank you for this joy, for this peace, for this hope that is never ending. Help me Father to never be full of myself, but to always empty myself so that Your presence may forever abound in me. Amen
